18-08: Friday morning was spent cleaning and spraying the lower block, as well as polishing the piston crowns and the compresion chambers.
http://www.jeroentje.nl/media/foto/4751.jpg
By 4 in the afternoon we had everything ready for the block's final build up, so we decided to go and freshs'en up for the long night ahead of us.
At around 9 we we're back at Jeroentje's and ready to begin.
The build up was going quite smootly until we had to Torque the screws down. we had to spend over an hour converting the settings from the Mazda Manual to the settings on our Torque wrench!! but once that was done everything fitted like a glove......

Getting the Timing belt right was a bit of a pain in the ass (now I know why Mazda dealers charge so much) but after a couple tries and a couple of....count to 10....it all just dropped right into place...

ohhh by the way, the complete gasket kit for the heads is around 300 eurie!!!!!! Not Normal.

By 8 in the morning we we're completely finnished, Bart and I we're Redbull overdossed and dreaming of our beds.....Its not been the fastest build up, but being a fuzzy B***ard I like everything perfect.
All that had to be done now was just a few shots with the cam...

A Mega thanks to Bart...it was a long night Bro...hahahha
and of course to Jeroen, without you this would not be possible.

Next week we will put the gearbox on the block and drop everything back in the chassis. We have to get the car running N/A before we can hook up the Turbo in order for the MapECU to go into Learning mode and create base maps for the system.

Once thats done the fun will begin with Turbo:

So you don't use a new engine??

I hope this one will still work, since you don't know why it broke down

How about the compression on the engine? It was so low that something must have been wrong or do you think it was measured wrong? Did you measure it again?

Over the compresion....obviously the first test done in Germany was not carried out correctly or the meter was faulty.

simple valve Test: Remove both heads from the engine, turn upside down on a flat level surface and fill the chamber domes with fuel......or any other thin liquid, now go and have a coffee.....when you come back if none of the liquid has passed through the valves, the you have a perfect seal.
All my valves we're polished and re-grounded into their seats by using first coarse paste and then smooth grinding paste, all valves we're re checked with engineer's blue before assembly.

Simple compression test when engine is open: Turn crankshaft until the chosen piston is at BDC (bottom of the chamber) fill chosen cylinder with fuel or other liquid, and wait. if you are loosing fluid...you know enough.
next week another compression test will be carried out using one of the meters you have to screw into your spark plug hole and not one you have to manually push down. This will give me an exact measurement of each cylinder.

Standard on my block is 9,2:1 - the test in germany showed two of my cylinders at 9,2. (even after all the abuse I have given my engine) Now due to all the polishing of the pistons and crowns I am hoping that the compresion has gone down just a bit...hopefully to 9,0. allowing for more boost.

@Turbulance......Porting, polishing or match porting is not one of Jeroentjes regular services, as all the work is carried out by myself. I have done this sort of performance work on Motorbikes for years (licensed Ducati Mechanic cat:1) but never on a Kl-ZE before so I am curious what the numbers will say on the Dyno. I know one thing for sure, there will be an improvement, the casting on the heads and manifold are of terrible quality, just on one port the difference between the hole on the head and the hole on the intake was over 0.6cm. All these imperffections cause Vortexes decreasing the velocity of the gas as it passes throught the intake ports.
If anyone is interested in custom work please contact me or Jeroen, we'll see what we can do.
